MTSU Men’s Basketball lands Sean Smith

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Sean Smith, a 6-3 guard from Louisville, Ky., has signed with Middle Tennessee men’s basketball, head coach Nick McDevitt announced Saturday afternoon. Smith, who comes to the Blue Raiders from Western Illinois, will join the program as a graduate in the 2025-26 season.

Smith started in 30 contests for the Leathernecks, while appearing in all 31, averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He shot 43.65 percent from the field and 33.71 percent from behind the arc as the main point guard for Western Illinois, tacking on an average of 3.68 assists per game and 49 steals, leading the team in both. He scored in double figures in 17 contests and notched triple-doubles in back-to-back games for the first time in Ohio Valley Conference History, scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against St. Ambrose and 10 points, 16 boards and 10 assists against East-West.

The Louisville native played his junior season at Alabama State where he played in 29 games off the bench. He averaged 5.1 points and 1.5 assists per contest, while shooting 36.4 percent from the field.

After graduating from Central High School in Louisville, the graduate spent two years in junior college, first at San Diego Mesa Community College, then at John A. Logan College. He dished out at least 100 assists in each season at junior college, while shooting 50.31 percent from the floor and 37.4 percent from beyond the arc. Smith tallied 9.66 points per game in his first two years at the collegiate level.
