AMC Theatres launched its first mobile game, AMC Movie Trivia Game Show, on Oct. 9, 2026. The free movie trivia app gave film fans in Middle Tennessee and across the country a daily way to test what they know, from classic Hollywood titles to recent blockbusters. AMC built the game with Hoyt Games and puzzle creator David L. Hoyt, the author of the long-running daily word puzzle Jumble. More Business News
AMC Movie Trivia Game Show Is a Free Download on Three App Stores
The app became available on Oct. 9 as a free download through the Apple App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore. That means it works on iPhones, Android phones and Amazon devices. No AMC account is needed to download the game, though AMC Stubs members get extra features inside the app.
Four New Movie Puzzles Arrive Every Day
The game serves up four new movie-themed puzzles each day. Players also have access to thousands of additional trivia challenges within the app when they want to keep playing. Each puzzle is solved by figuring out a single “solve word,” a puzzle format Hoyt invented. Questions cover movie history, well-known characters, famous lines, franchises, filmmakers and more.
AMC Stubs Members Get In-Game Bonuses
AMC Movie Trivia Game Show connects with AMC Stubs, the theatre chain’s loyalty program. Stubs members receive exclusive in-game bonuses and extra puzzle-solving help. AMC did not list the specific benefits in its announcement.
Why AMC Released a Mobile Game
Ellen Copaken, AMC’s senior vice president of business development, said the app is part of the company’s push to stay connected with moviegoers outside the auditorium. AMC also positioned the game as an added benefit for its Stubs members. It marks the first time the theatre chain has released a mobile gaming app.
David L. Hoyt Created Jumble and Other Daily Puzzles
Hoyt’s newspaper, digital and mobile games are played by millions of people every day. Along with Jumble, he invented and writes USA TODAY Word Roundup and USA TODAY Up & Down Words. He also created See & Solve Trivia Game Show and founded the David L. Hoyt Education Foundation, which promotes play-based and collaborative learning.
