Auditions for the first all-county midsummer musical, “Mamma Mia!,” will take place on Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17 from 4-7 p.m. at Cheatham County Central High School, 1 Cub Circle in Ashland City.

Anyone who was enrolled as a high school or college student in the spring 2022 semester is welcome to audition. Students are welcome to attend both nights in their entirety or drop in briefly according to their availability.

Students will be informed via email by Tuesday evening if they will be needed at the callback audition. Callbacks will occur on Wednesday, May 18 from 4-7 p.m., but may end earlier at the casting team’s discretion.

If selected for cast or crew, students must attend a mandatory meeting on Monday, May 23 at 4 p.m. The rehearsal calendar will be finalized at this meeting. If you are unable to attend the May 23 meeting, please do not audition for this production.

Rehearsals will occur throughout the months of June and July, with the production taking place in late July. The rehearsal calendar will be determined based on the availability of the cast, but students can expect calls 3-4 days per week in 2-4 hour blocks. In the event of a full day call, a meal will be provided.

The audition will consist of karaoke singing, dance, monologues, and cold reading.

To prepare for a karaoke audition, please select and rehearse a verse and a chorus of an ABBA song with a karaoke track available on YouTube. (You may start your selection anywhere in the song.)

To prepare for a dance audition, find the audition combination which will be posted to the “CubsTheatre” YouTube channel in early May. Please learn the combination before arriving. At the audition, actors will be placed in small groups to briefly rehearse and then present the combination.

Finally, actors will need to prepare a contemporary comedic monologue. This piece should be memorized. Please use a standard American dialect and incorporate blocking into the performance.

Actors may be asked to cold read for a variety of characters. Actors will be given sides at auditions and paired with a reader. Actors should interact with the reader. Be prepared to be interrupted and given direction.

Those asked to return for callbacks will be asked to perform a verse and a chorus of a specific song from the show. This will be late notice, so it is wise to already be familiar with the show. At callbacks, actors can also expect to be given sides and paired with other actors to read for various roles. There will be no dancing or monologues at callbacks.

Any student interested in working backstage need simply sign up at auditions. Crew are also expected to attend the mandatory meeting on May 23.

Questions may be directed to Lauren Street, CCCHS theatre teacher, via email at [email protected].
