The Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating several reports of stolen mail in the northern part of the county, including the Joelton area.
Deputies believe thieves are targeting mailboxes to find checks, which are then altered and cashed at local banks. Authorities are urging residents to avoid leaving outgoing checks in personal mailboxes. Instead, they recommend using secure mail drop boxes at post offices.
Those who regularly receive checks are encouraged to speak with their local Postmaster about safer options.
The Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information or who believes they are a victim of mail theft to contact the department or email Detective Jose Mojica at [email protected].
The investigation remains ongoing.
