The Cheatham County School District has adopted several new procedures regarding visitors in its schools in light of the recent shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville.
Cheatham County Schools shared on its website that starting Monday, April 10 during school hours, visitors will be asked to show identification and to answer the following questions:
• What is your first and last name?
• What is the purpose of your visit?
• What is the student’s first and last name?
The school district stated if you are checking your child out of school, you will be asked to wait outside while school staff brings your child to you.
Families are still welcome to have lunch with students but families are asked to let the front office know that you are coming beforehand and that you do not show up unexpectedly. The school district states it cannot let visitors eat with students in the cafeteria unless the school is expecting visitors.
The district is also asking families to alert the front office know if you are having something delivered to your child. They will not accept deliveries that they do not know about beforehand.
Appointments must also be scheduled ahead of time to meet with any school staff (principal, counselor or teachers).
“We will continue to assess and update our safety protocols in order to keep our students, employees and families as safe as possible,” the district states on their website.
