District-Level Teachers of the Year Named

The Cheatham County School District has named three exceptional educators as the 2021-2022 District-Level Teachers of the Year.

“Our Teacher of the Year program gives us opportunity to celebrate our standout educators and show them our appreciation for everything they do for our schools and our students,” said Director of Schools Dr. Cathy Beck. “These educators are talented, dedicated and resilient. They have impacted and inspired students to unforetold heights in all aspects of their lives, and we are proud to recognize them.”

The District-Level Teachers of the Year are:

High school: Kristina Pardue, Cheatham County Central High School math teacher. Pardue, who has taught for 12 years, has worked at Charlotte Middle School, Cheatham Middle School and CCCHS. She earned her bachelor’s degree in hospitality administration from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and her master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction from Trevecca Nazarene University. Through the years, Pardue has served as an assistant volleyball, basketball and softball coach. She is the sponsor of the Hospitality Club at CCCHS and also serves as a new teacher mentor at the school.

Middle school: Christy Davis, Sycamore Middle School world history and science teacher. Davis has taught for eight years – all at SMS. She earned her associate degree from Nashville State Community College and bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University. In addition to her teaching duties, she serves as the SMS Cheatham Achievers site director and yearbook coordinator. Additionally, she is a member of the SMS leadership committee and sponsors the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Elementary school: Janelle Mahaney, West Cheatham Elementary School RTI teacher. Mahaney has taught for 33 years – all within the district. Before joining the WCES staff 11 years ago, she taught at Ashland City Primary School and Pleasant View Elementary School. Mahaney earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction from Austin Peay State University. She is a member of the Professional Educators of Tennessee and chairs the leadership team and school improvement plan committee at WCES.

The three will now go on to compete for Teacher of the Year for the Mid-Cumberland region. If they are selected as a regional winner, they will then advance for consideration for Teacher of the Year at the state level.
