The Cheatham County School District has appointed longtime educator Shelly Greer as the new academic specialist at Sycamore High School.
Greer, now in her 14th year with the district, has spent the past 13 years teaching English at Sycamore. During that time, she also sponsored the yearbook and Student Government, and served as English department chair.
She has mentored multiple student teachers from Austin Peay State University, along with several new teachers in her department. In May 2025, Greer was recognized as one of the top six educators in the district for student growth. She is also a multi-year Level 5 teacher and was named Sycamore High’s Teacher of the Year in 2018-2019.
Greer said stepping out of the classroom was a difficult decision, but she is eager to continue supporting student success in her new role.
