A domestic assault call in Kingston Springs escalated into a deadly standoff on Saturday, WKRN reports.

Deputies responded to a reported domestic assault involving threats with a gun in the 1100 block of Big Tom Road. Officials said the victim was able to leave the home, prompting the initial law enforcement response.

While attempting to make contact with the suspect, authorities said threats were made toward law enforcement. Officials also reported the suspect was armed with a rifle, refused to comply with commands, and barricaded himself inside the residence. Warrants for aggravated domestic assault were obtained as a result.

Due to the suspect’s actions and threats, the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office activated its SWAT team along with crisis negotiators. Law enforcement said negotiations continued for several hours with repeated attempts to reach a peaceful resolution, but communication deteriorated and the suspect continued to refuse to comply.

After multiple unsuccessful attempts to re-establish contact, SWAT members entered the home and found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

No additional details have been released as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the initial domestic incident remains ongoing.
