“We won. WE WON BIG! All of our classics were awarded ribbons at the North American Ice Cream Association (NAIC) convention earlier this month,” said Golly G’s Facebook page. “At Golly G’s, we always want to bring joy to our customers, but it’s equally important to us that we provide you all with a high-quality product that meets the highest standards. According to the judges, that’s exactly what we’re doing.”

Golly G’s won a White Ribbon First Place award for their vanilla ice cream, a Red Ribbon Second Place award for their chocolate ice cream and their strawberry ice cream received a Third Place Blue Ribbon. Judging was done by dairy scientists from Cornell University and members of the NAIC. Awards were based on overall taste and quality. They went up against hundreds of ice creams entered from makers all over North America at the convention in Fort Worth, Texas earlier this month.

“None of this would be possible without our hard-working Ice Cream Production team under the direction of our talented Ice Cream Wizard, Beth Goodon,” said owner Joey Boykin in a press release. “We’re so grateful for them and all they bring to our company.”

Boykin began Golly G’s Coffee, Ice Cream and Sweets in Pleasant View in Cheatham County in 2016, adding a Clarksville location in 2017 and the Greenbriar location in Robertson County in 2020. He loves working in small towns because people know you, appreciate your hard work, and everyone cares for you and supports you.

“Our business grew 30% during the pandemic,” explained Boykin on a video interview on georgedunlap.com.

They succeed by staying true to their core values of kindness, excellence, service, community and fun. In addition to homemade ice cream, they offer locally roasted coffee and made-from-scratch baked goods. They are best known for their giant cinnamon rolls topped with a scoop of sweet butter ice cream and topped with Ghirardelli Caramel Sauce.

While Boykin has attended the ice cream convention every year since 2016, this is the first time he entered his ice cream in competition. He is surprised and honored to win his first time entering.

Golly G’s in Greenbriar is located on the corner of Highway 41 and College Street on the square. They can be found at 2622 Madison Street in Clarksville. And their flagship store in Pleasant View is on Highway 41.

The North American Ice Cream Association is committed to advancing the ice cream and frozen dessert industry and furthering the success of our member businesses by providing meaningful network connections and expertise, innovative educational opportunities, and ongoing strategic leadership.
