This May, The Sage Horse – Equine Assisted Wellness and Colby’s Army, Inc. will host a Creative Connections workshop titled “Women Without Mothers” on Saturday, May 9th, 2026, from 1-4 pm at Colby’s Army, Inc. (1394 George Boyd Rd, Ashland City, TN 37015). The event is focused on bringing women together who share a common bond – those without their mothers this Mother’s Day.
Enjoy time with the horses (all ground activities, no riding), followed by time to be creative. Let the horses fuel your creativity and intuition as you dive into creative expression (drawings, watercolors, and/or acrylics).
The goal at Colby’s Army is to make equine activities more accessible to the public. The Equine Assisted Learning Programs provide ground-based (no riding) experiential learning opportunities for everyone to engage with horses for enjoyment, inspiration, and personal growth.
Each session is $55, with a $6/session discount for attending multiple Creative Connections with Horses (i.e., two workshops would be a total of $98).
WHAT IS IT:
Creativity isn’t just self-expression; it’s self-care. What do the horses add? Horses are a natural facilitator in bringing us into the present moment, for greater awareness of ourselves and of our environment. Activities with the horses help you get centered and grounded, reduce stress levels and internal noise, and awaken your passions.
In this workshop, you’ll find opportunities that:
– Create an experience that invites connection with self, others, the horse, and your creative spirit. Includes guided activities with the horses by equine professionals.
– The theme for this session is “Women Without Mothers.”
– Tap into your authentic and deepest self to reveal true creative expression on the page, through color, text, and form. Art activities to vary, may include pencil drawing, contour drawing, watercolor, and acrylic painting. Plus, we have some fun and unique activities like painting with the horse tail!
– Open your heart up to what inspires you, fuels your imagination.
– Bring Joy and passion into your world.
– You may be surprised at what you discover and what you create!
WHO IT’S FOR:
For this workshop, we’re inviting women of all ages who share the experience of navigating life without their mother, whether through loss, estrangement, distance, or complicated relationships. It’s a gentle invitation to slow down, spend time with horses, get creative (through journaling and art making), and be supported in community—without any pressure to share or explain.
No prior experience with horses or art/writing is needed. All ages are welcome (those under 18 will need to attend with an adult), and this experience can be especially meaningful for women who lost their mother at a young age.
Here you can cherish time for yourself, enjoy a connection to animals, nature, and others in the group. Benefit from the solace of time spent outdoors in the presence of horses and nature, and awaken the soul through creativity and the magic of horses (yes, we believe in magic!).
All activities are on the ground; there is no riding, and no horse experience is required.
