YMCAs across Middle Tennessee are hosting special events throughout October to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and support the YMCA’s After Breast Cancer (ABC) program.
The “Pink with Purpose” campaign includes workouts, fundraisers, community events and donation drives. The ABC program provides free exercise and wellness programs for breast cancer survivors following treatment.
“Breast Cancer Awareness Month presents us the opportunity to shine a light not only on breast cancer itself, but on all the survivors we serve through our program,” said Denise Mattox, director of the Y’s After Breast Cancer program.
Events include:
- Oct. 8 — Kendra Scott Jewelry Give Back Night
Kendra Scott at Green Hills Mall will donate 20% of sales to the ABC program. - Oct. 15 — Pink Out Alumni Workout
Brentwood Family YMCA, 8207 Concord Road, Brentwood, at 10:30 a.m. Current and former ABC participants are invited to attend and wear pink. - Oct. 17 — ABC Alumni Potluck Brunch
Margaret Maddox Family YMCA, 2624 Gallatin Road, from 10 a.m. to noon. RSVP to Susan Martin at [smartin@ymcamidtn.org](mailto:smartin@ymcamidtn.org). - Oct. 17-24 — Pink Out Week
Community members are encouraged to wear pink and participate in special classes and activities at local YMCAs. - Oct. 19 — Body Pump Pink Out
Pink-themed Body Pump classes will be held at the Green Hills Family YMCA and Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA. - Oct. 24 — The Pink Crawl
Pink Out Springfield will host a community event featuring Main Street businesses, shopping bingo and pink decorations. Proceeds benefit the ABC program. - Oct. 24 — Pink Out Party
The Northwest Family YMCA will host fitness classes from 8 a.m. to noon, including Body Pump, Dance Blast and Hip Hop Step Xtreme. - Oct. 24 — Dance-A-Thon
The North Rutherford Family YMCA in Smyrna will host two dance fitness classes from 10 a.m. to noon. - Oct. 25 — Pink Out Zumba
The Clarksville Area Family YMCA will host a Zumba fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. A minimum $5 donation is requested. - Oct. 26 and Oct. 29 — Spooky Spin
The Sumner County Family YMCA in Hendersonville will host cycling fundraisers at 5:30 p.m. A minimum $50 donation is required, with 20 spots available per class.
The YMCA is also selling ABC T-shirts for $25, with proceeds supporting the program. All 12 YMCA locations are collecting pink lipsticks, lip balms and pink-themed makeup items for ABC participant goodie bags through Oct. 24.
The ABC program is a 16-week program designed by breast cancer survivors for survivors. It provides exercise, nutrition education, support groups and other wellness resources at no cost to participants.
