Rachel Long has been named Cheatham County School District’s new elementary academic coordinator.

Long, who has served as Sycamore Middle School’s academic specialist since 2021, will replace Katie Arnold, who is pursuing other educational opportunities. Long will begin her new duties in July.

A 2000 graduate of Cheatham County Central High School, Long earned a bachelor’s degree in K-8 education from Middle Tennessee State University, a master’s of education degree in administration and supervision from Tennessee State University and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree in curriculum and instruction from MTSU.

Before joining the SMS staff three years ago, she served as an ELL teacher at Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy and Sycamore High School. She has also worked in several other school districts in Tennessee and Washington as a classroom teacher, instructional coach and assistant principal.

“I look forward to partnering with elementary specialists, principals and teachers as we work together to cultivate rich learning experiences for our students. I know we will accomplish great things together and feel honored and excited to start this new journey within our district,” Long said.
