From the Ashland City Fire Department:
The new Emergency Sirens are up and running in Ashland City. A monthly test will take place the first Sunday of each month at 2pm. This sound will be a “wavy” short alarm, lasting less than a minute. During an actual weather warning the alarm will be a solid sound that lasts much longer. Keep in mind that the sirens rotate so it will be louder at times when it is in a more direct location.
The test will possibly be postponed if there is a weather warning happening. The sirens will be activated when there is a “warning” from National Weather Service. Remember a Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for an event. A Warning is when a tornado is imminent or has been seen.
These sirens are located in 4 areas around Ashland City and are meant to be heard while outside, so you may not hear them if you are inside your house or a business. If outside and you hear the siren, proceed indoors immediately and tune into your local weather station or weather radio. The sirens are set to activate when the warning effects Cheatham County and the surrounding area if it is moving into Cheatham County.
