Alvin Newell Mitchell was born in Nashville, Tennessee on August 2, 1936, the youngest son of Alma Althea Mitchell and John Tillman Mitchell. Alvin passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, J.T. Mitchel; and wife, Bonnie Mitchell.

He is survived by wife, Elizabeth (Liz), who will love him through eternity; his son, Patrick L. Mitchell of Brentwood; step-daughter, Leigh A. Garrison and husband, Tim of Ashland City. He is also survived by grandchildren, Hannah L. Mitchell, Chase L. Mitchell, Justin A. Garrison, and wife Samantha, Christopher R. Garrison and wife Sydney; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Aaron, Colin, Titus, Olivia, and Brynleigh. Sister-in-law, Jean Mitchell of Loveland, Ohio; brother-in-law, Wayne Collins and wife Gina of Cane Ridge; brother-in-law, Joe Collins and wife Marsha of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Virginia Lee of Power Springs, Georgia; Ellen Lee and husband Harold of Kingston Springs also survive.

He lived most of his adult life in Ashland City, Tennessee, and touched the lives of many with his humor, kindness, generosity, and loyal friendship. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and golfing with his family and friends.

He was also known as the family historian, keeping younger generations entertained and informed with stories of days and times gone by. He loved his God and served Him faithfully. He is now in the most perfect of places.

Gratitude to Vantage Pointe Village and to Guardian Hospice, who took care of him in the most gentle and caring way.

A private, immediate-family only viewing was held at Cheatham County Funeral Home in Ashland City, as was his wish.
