Darryl Scott Peden, age 61, of Pegram, Tennessee passed away on September 1st 2026 at home surrounded by his wife, Elizabeth, and their nine children.

Born on July 9th in Rochester, New York to Robert and Deanna (Hochsettler) Peden, Darryl grew up in Rochester and graduated from Irondequoit High School where he and Liz were high school sweethearts. After school he enlisted in the Army where he served as a combat engineer till 1989. Darryl and Liz were married in July of 1989 and enjoyed 37 years of marriage.

Darryl was known to be an avid reader, enjoying everything from C.S. Lewis and Dallas Willard, to Jack London and Louis L’Amour. He liked his coffee black and his beer dark. Ever active, he loved a physical challenge, participating in a variety of endurance races. He loved the water and enjoyed the beaches of Florida with Liz, and the Cumberland River with the kids. He was proud of his Scottish heritage, and loved Celtic and bluegrass music, even learning to play the banjo and bagpipe chanter. He enjoyed a long career in the field of structural design, with collaborations on buildings across Nashville including the Tennessee State Museum. To the end, he trusted in the sovereignty of God to care and provide in every aspect of his life even in the midst of his final year facing cancer.

He is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth (Pabst) Peden; children, Sarah (James Martin), Megan (Jameson Winter), Alexander (Christy Peden), Jackson (Courtney Purvis), Riley (Abigail Peden), James (Taylor Binkley), Michael, Cole, and Fiona; father, Robert Peden; siblings, Jeff Peden, Matt Peden; grandchildren, Levi, Sawyer, Ezra, Freya, Rosemary and Silas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to support Stephen and Liz Fox, working with the ABWE to spread the Gospel in New Zealand. https://give.abwe.org/worker/fox-stephen-elizabeth.
