James Ebb Gupton, Sr., age 77, was born in Henrietta, Tennessee, on October 7, 1945, and passed peacefully at his home in Henrietta on June 28, 2023, surrounded by his family.
He was a lifelong resident of Henrietta and always said “Henrietta was the garden spot of the world.” He was a retired farmer and former trailer mechanic for Ryder. Ebb loved watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke and Wagon Train. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W.E. “Dick” Gupton and Mavis Keith Gupton; and son, David Gupton.
Ebb is survived by his wife, Teresa (Sanders) Gupton; sons, James (Shelly) Gupton and Michael (Sarah) Gupton; daughter, Stephanie (Bryan) Allen; grandchildren, Mary Ashton McClellan (Chris), Sarah Bishop (Tristin), Daniel Gupton, Rachel Allen, Michelle Gupton, Lillie Mae Gupton, Emmy Lynn Gupton, Olivia Gupton, Elizabeth Gupton, and Mary Claire Gupton; great-grandchildren, Linnie Grace McClellan and one on the way, Weston Bishop.
Funeral service will be Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 11 am in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Brother Terry Forrest officiating. Burial will follow in Gupton Family Cemetery in Henrietta, Tennessee. Visitation will be Friday, June 30, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm and resume Saturday from 9 am until service hour of 11 am. Active pallbearers will be children and grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Gibbs and Rudy Batts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, or Shriners Hospital.
