Jimmy Slayden Batey, age 62, of Charlotte, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at his home. He was born on June 1, 1964, in Dickson, Tennessee, to the late Bobby Slayden Batey and Phyllis Ann (Gray) Batey. Jimmy was a member of the Cheatham County High School Class of 1982. He went on to work as a heavy equipment operator for Gibbs Brothers, Meadows Excavating, and Sammy Gibbs Construction. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Phyllis Ann Batey; half-brother, Terry Wayne Hooper; half-brother, William Daniel Hooper; and grandson, Cash Pewitt. He is survived by his wife, Melanie (Spann) Batey; son, Bobby Slayden Batey (Shelby); daughter, Whitney Kathleen Stockton (Derik); stepchildren, Kristen Pardue (Hunter) and Robert Stitt (Ellen); nephew, Dan Hooper; and grandchildren, Jackson Pewitt, Braxton Pewitt, Becca Batey, Rhett Batey, Lily Batey, Winsten Atchley, Wrenley Atchley, Baleigh Stockton, Logan Stockton, Emory Stitt, and Rhys Stockton.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 6pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home. Visitation will be the same day from 4pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
