Michael Downs Pemberton, age 76, of Ashland City, TN, formerly a long-time resident of Dickson, TN, passed away peacefully following a brief illness on November 14, 2022.

He was born October 11, 1946, in El Paso, TX to Lewis D. Pemberton and Mary Jane McNeil Pemberton.

He earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Texas, El Paso in 1970.

Following graduation, he began a career as a Sports writer for El Paso Herald Post covering the University of Texas, El Paso track and field and aspiring PGA Tour Professional, Lee Trevino.

After moving to Dickson, TN, he became the Editor and Publisher of the Dickson County Herald, before an extensive professional career in the commercial printing industry.

He enjoyed attending activities and ball games that involved his four grandchildren. He enjoyed attending Titans football games, was an avid Nascar fan and a huge fan of UT Vols Football. He was a member of the Dickson County Rotary Club, Dickson County Jaycees, and served on the church council at St. James Episcopal Church in Dickson, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis D. Pemberton and Mary Jane McNeil Pemberton.

Survivors include his wife; Patricia J. Sullivan Pemberton of Ashland City, TN (Formerly of Dickson, TN), son, Shane Pemberton (Tonia) of Ashland City, TN, daughter, Renee Brooks (Darryl) of Old Hickory, TN, sisters, Harriet Sturgeon (Tom) of Rosharon, TX, Becky Weathers (Issac) of Carrollton, TX, grandchildren, Peyton Brooks of Knoxville, TN, Logan Brooks of Old Hickory, TN, Bryce Pemberton of Ashland City, TN and Brady Pemberton of Ashland City, TN.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. James Episcopal Church with Rev. David Yancy officiating. A private burial will follow for immediate family in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Honorary Pall Bearers for the service will be: Logan Brooks; Bryce Pemberton; Brady Pemberton; Lewis Pemberton; Darryl Brooks; and Tom Sturgeon.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. James Episcopal Church (Dickson, TN) or Alive Hospice (Nashville, TN).
