Rayburn Earl Raymer was born on May 19, 1930 and passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024. Ray was born in Springfield, Tennessee.

Ray as a young child started his life of work as a stock feeder and animal caretaker at the stockyards in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Ray’s work ethic mirrored that of his family in that work came early to take care of himself and his family, and he would often tag along with his brothers in their jobs as ice deliverymen or other odd jobs, and soon Ray became adapt in many jobs in the 1940s.

Ray worked at various downtown department stores in their delivery departments until his entry into the United States Army during the Korean conflict, where he was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii at Schofield Barracks on the Island of Oahu, where he served as an aide and assistant with the officer core and staff for the 25th Infantry Division. Fortunately, he was not deployed into combat, and he returned to Nashville, Tennessee where he eventually entered federal service with the United States Postal Service where he remained until retirement.

He remained in Cheatham County during retirement and filled his time with various civic and community organizations; including but not limited to, Helping Hands, postal food drives, Christmas toy drives, the Bethesda Center, Senior Citizens, and the Ashland City United Methodist Church. Ray loved baseball and watched games up to the last day of his life. Following retirement Ray enjoyed being a working member of the community serving as a helpful and talkative cashier with the local Kemp’s grocery store and continuing to serve as a union representative with Branch 4 of the Nation Association of Letter Carrier with recently receiving his 65-year pin. He continued to interact with hundreds of postal workers in his uniform sales business along with his wife, Linda Raymer. Ray’s resounding and boisterous laugh will be well missed!

His demeanor and dedication toward service to the community was refreshing and bridled with unselfishness and his efforts, and those of many other servants, can still be seen in the Bethesda Center operations to this day in Ashland City, Tennessee. Ray’s life would not in any form or fashion be characterized as easy, but it was a full life encompassed by family, friends, and acquaintances, and it was a life where his hand was extended numerous times to help!

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Raymer and Maggie Lee Fuqua Raymer; his brothers and sisters, Nellie Neal, Claude Raymer, Gladys Harrison, Alice Taylor, Frank Raymer, Margaret Jones, Helen Brown, Betty Jo Harwell, and Jerry Raymer; son in law, Mitchell Wallace, and his grandsons, Ethan Love and Jacob Lockert.
