Reverend Paul Robert passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Vantage Pointe Village in Ashland City, Tennessee, surrounded by his children and family. He is survived by his children: Susan (Steve) Allen, Bob (Becky) Gupton, and Robin Jackson; grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Bailey, Wendy (Rob) Funk, Emily (Tim) Toombs, Ryan (Jamie) Gupton, Adam (Chelsea) Gupton, Amy (Andy) Matlock, Joshua (Christina) Jackson, Abby (Justin) Short, and Lakin Jackson; great-grandchildren, Bridget Bailey, Audrey Bailey, Jordan Funk (fiancée Alex Mosella), Elizabeth Funk, Bo Funk, Aidan Toombs, Ashley Toombs, Ayla Toombs, Trent Gupton (Dulce), Nick Gupton, Wyatt Gupton, Camden Gupton, Everly Gupton, Ryker Gupton, Legend Gupton, Amariyah Gupton, Houston Matlock, Gage Matlock, Colton Matlock, Sawyer Matlock, Kendrick Short and Ella Short; and two great-great-grandsons, Cooper Mosella and Kylen Gupton. He is preceded in death by his parents, E.R. and Irene Gupton; infant brother, Gupton; his wife, Marilyn June Gupton; and son-in-law, Roger Jackson.

Reverend Paul Robert Gupton was born December 8, 1931, son of E.R. (Frate) Gupton and Irene Hagewood Gupton. He was married to Marilyn Crenshaw on December 31, 1950, and they had three children. The Reverend Gupton graduated from Cheatham County Central High School, Class of 1949 and attended Austin Peay before joining the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. After serving four years, he returned to Ashland City, Tennessee where they made their home. He worked for Nashville Ford Glass before retiring in 1974. Paul Robert was licensed to preach in 1988 and graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia with a course of study diploma. Before serving Walton’s Chapel, he served Simpkins Chapel and Neptune Church and Mallory’s Chapel. He served four churches in Lewis County, Tennessee. He was a member of the Cheatham County Ministerial Alliance, was an alderman, public works director, and chaplain for the Town of Ashland City before retirement.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Reverend Craig Cross officiating and Ryan Gupton giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Ashland City, Tennessee. Visitation will be Monday, July 1st from 3pm to 7pm and on Tuesday before the service from 11am until service hour of 1pm. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Gupton, Adam Gupton, David Bailey, Rob Funk, Tim Toombs, Josh Jackson, and Justin Short.
