Teddy Pryor Gupton, age 82, of Ashland City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 16, 1942, in Ashland City, Tennessee, to the late Felix Gupton and Ruby (Pryor) Gupton.
A 1960 graduate of Ashland City High School He retired after serving 38 years, as a Hydro-power Engineer, with the Nashville District, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. After retiring, he was called back into service with the Corps of Engineers as a damage assessor with the Disaster Relief team for Hurricanes Charley, Katrina, and Irma and for the devastating tornado outbreak in Cullman Alabama in 2011.
In retirement, Teddy enjoyed traveling through much of the U.S., cruising Alaska, the Hawaiian and Caribbean Islands, Mexico and one of his favorites, Australia. He also spent many winters “snowbirding” in Lake Suzy, FL.
Teddy loved sports and enjoyed golfing with the Tennessee Travelers and playing various courses in TN, KY, and FL. He coached Dixie Youth baseball for many years. He was also a big fan of Vanderbilt Baseball and the Atlanta Braves.
Teddy served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Ashland City and was currently serving as a deacon at Harvest Fields Baptist Church. He also taught Sunday School for both churches. He loved meeting new people and sharing the Lord with all those he met.
Teddy is preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Ruby Gupton, brother William (Billy) Felix Gupton and sister Mary Ann (Gupton) Jennette. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Charlsie Allee (Mills) Gupton; daughter, Tina Gupton Rice; granddaughter, Kileigh Shelton (Michael) and brother Vollie David Gupton; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 3pm to 7pm and Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 11am to 1pm with the service beginning at 1pm in the Chapel of Cheatham County Funeral Home with Brother Leon Edwards and Ronnie Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in EverRest of Cheatham in Pleasant View, Tennessee.
Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Langston, Dewey Puckett, Keith Hogue, Bennie Brewer, Jeremy Gupton, Garrick Malone, Kevin Russell, Isaiah Gupton. Honorary pallbearers Owen Lyle, George (Jr.) Hunter, Alton Denny, Percy Green, Joe Empson, Mack Pryor, Robert Wayman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Gideon’s of Cheatham County.
