William “Bill” Sapp, age 86, passed away October 2, 2021 at Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield, TN.
Bill received a B.S. in science and mathematics from Northeast Missouri State University, including his Masters of Education Administration and an honorary doctorate from Oxford in England. He was a member of Ashland City UMC and an educator for nearly 50 years, starting his career in Iowa and traveling all over the Midwest in educational sales which led to him making his home in Ashland City. He worked in the Cheatham County School District for about 30 years and was a principal at Ashland City Primary School, Ashland City Elementary School, and Sycamore Middle School. His final career after retirement was driving a school bus. He loved his Cheatham County Children!
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William B. Sapp and Ruth M. (Smith) Curfman; stepfather, Ernest D. Curfman; brother, Roy M. Sapp; and brother-in-law, Lester Pigg.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. (Glasgow) Sapp; children, Rachelle Taylor (Floyd), William ‘Billy’ Sapp, Laura Guthrie, Christina ‘Tina’ Faulker (Randall), Peggy Leonard (James), and Bobby Bruton (Kate Sage); grandchildren, Lauran Wisdom McCrary (Timothy), Katherine Wisdom, William ‘Will’ Wisdom (Maddie), Jonathan Leonard, Christopher Leonard, Megan Guthrie Caputo (Jacob), Bailey Sage-Bruton Carter, and Connor Bruton; great-grandchildren, Olivia McCrary and Benjamin McCrary; sisters-in-law, Alice Sapp and Shirley Elaine Pigg, and one nephew, a number of nieces, and many, many greats.
Graveside service will be in EverRest of Cheatham LLC in Pleasant View, TN on October 9, 2021 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to The Gideons or ACUMC.
