College Baseball:

         Vanderbilt Commodores – Loss 13-2

The Vanderbilt Commodores and Mississippi State Bulldogs are headed to a winner take all Game 3 of the College World Series as Mississippi State took their revenge last night. After a long weather delay, the Bulldogs scored early and scored often to beat Vandy 13-2. Vanderbilt tied things up in the second inning with a CJ Rodriguez home run, but after that they would not score until the 9th inning. The Commodores could only muster up 4 total hits in the game, while their opponent hit 14. The Commodores also committed 3 fielding errors, which is uncommon for them. They will look to bounce back this evening and prevent Mississippi State from earning their first National Championship in any team sport.

In other Vandy news, the Commodores did set a record in last night’s game.

Nashville Sounds: Win 8-2

The Nashville Sounds kicked off their series against the Louisville Bats with a 8-2 win. Louisville scored first in the top of the 4th inning, but it was the bottom of the 5th when the sounds took the game over. The Sounds’ bats came alive as they scored 6 runs in the inning. Both teams would add runs later in the game, but the 5th inning decided the game as the 6 runs were enough to hold on for the win.

Atlanta Braves: Loss 4-3

The Atlanta Braves dropped a close one to the New York Mets. Ozzie Albies got the Braves on the board when he hit a 3-run homer in 5th inning. It looked like that was all that was going to be needed to win, but unfortunately the Mets rallied back in the 7th inning. First McCann hit a 3-run home run himself to tie the game, then Lindor hit an RBI single to give the Mets the lead. That ended up being the deciding run as the Mets won 4-3. AJ Minter was the pitcher who took the loss on the mound.

Cincinnati Reds: Loss 5-4

The Cincinnati Reds ran into a very hot San Diego Padres team last night. The Padres have won 10 of their last 11 games. The Padres scored early and often but the Reds did their best to stay in the game. After giving up 2 runs in the top of the first, the Reds got 1 back off a Stephenson RBI single. The Padres tacked a couple runs on and in the bottom of the 5th it was a 5-2 game when Jesse Winker drove in 2 runs off a home run. The Reds were back in the game. However, their bats would go cold as ice from there on out and they ended up losing 5-4.
