Wow, what a beatdown! Tennessee absolutely demolished ETSU 72-17 at Neyland Stadium, setting a new modern-era scoring record in front of 101,915 fans.
The Vols were unstoppable on offense – 717 total yards, three different quarterbacks throwing touchdowns, and they had 48 points by halftime alone. Joey Aguilar looked sharp, going 23/31 for 288 yards before getting pulled early. Star Thomas ran wild with 3 TDs, and both Chris Brazzell II and Mike Matthews topped 100 receiving yards.
The defense was equally dominant, holding ETSU to just 49 rushing yards and shutting them out completely in the first quarter – zero first downs and only 7 total yards allowed.
Of course, beating up on ETSU is one thing. The real test comes next Saturday when Georgia rolls into town for the SEC opener. That’ll tell us a lot more about what this Tennessee team is really made of. But for now, the Vols look scary good under Josh Heupel.
Should be a packed house again next weekend – Georgia at Neyland is always must-see TV.
