Toyota is recalling more than 228,000 Sienna Hybrid minivans from the 2022 through 2026 model years because a second-row seat mechanism may disengage during certain crashes, potentially increasing the risk of injury.
The recall involves 228,367 vehicles, according to a NHTSA recall notice filed by Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing. The affected minivans have second-row seats equipped with integrated seat belts and pretensioners designed to quickly retract the belts to help restrain occupants during certain high-speed frontal crashes.
During certain crashes, the force from the seat belt pretensioner can cause movement within the seat’s recliner mechanism. Under specific conditions, that movement may cause the mechanism to disengage from its locked position.
If the seat back is not securely locked, it may fail to properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 7, 2026
