For safety measures, the Cheatham County School District recently changed their backpack policy ahead of the 2023-24 school year.

Read their statement made on July 7, 2023 below.

“The safety of our students and staff is a top priority, and the Cheatham County School District continues to take steps to ensure that our schools are safe learning environments.

Starting with the 2023-2024 school year, all middle and high school students will be required to put all backpacks, lunch boxes and sports bags into their locker each morning, and these bags will be not carried from room to room throughout the day.

Students will need to pay to rent a lock. Students who qualify for free and reduced meals will not need to pay. Our schools will work with students to ensure that they have a locker plan.

Thank you for your support as we implement this additional safety measure in our middle and high schools.

We are also pleased to announce that the Cheatham County Commission agreed to fund two new School Resource Officer positions beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. This will certainly help to ensure that all of our schools are covered every day.

We are looking forward to the new school year. The first day of school for students in grades 1-9 is Monday, Aug. 7 with a 10:45 a.m. dismissal. The first full day of school for students in grades 1-12 is Tuesday, Aug. 8.”
