This is the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Report for May 13, 2022, provided by the Sheriff’s Office.

SHERIFF’S REPORT: LOVE AND ALCOHOL IS IN THE AIR…

You know the day is starting out bad when your car catches fire on Ervin Pace and while you run to a nearby creek for water to douse the flames, a dog runs up and bites you on the…Animal Control, Cheatham Fire and that mayhem guy from Allstate were notified.

So many unresponsive people and overdoses this week. It’s become a routine of rushing in, administering life saving techniques and then on to the next. A record number of deaths in 2021. The grim reality sees no end in sight for 2022.

The eighteen-wheeler on Jackson Felts careened into the concrete pole. Both stood their ground but luckily, no injuries. The car needed pulling over. The driver pulled into someone’s driveway and took off, “rabbit running.” The deputy would have none of that and his roadrunner quickness kicked in.

Some vehicles just abruptly stopped in the roadway this week. One took off in the woods and was later deemed drunk. A female parked her car and was out looking for her wedding ring that slipped off while negotiating the curves of Valley View. And then there was the Pontiac Catalina stopped square in the road idling while the driver was “racehorse peeing.”

Marty and Biff were on their hoverboards floating around the Dollar General when it happened. Shoplifting while hovering is no laughing matter. If we catch these juvenile delinquents, they will be corrected in the harshest manner, within proper guidelines, to the fullest extent of wrist slapping and tongue lashing.

UNDERAGE ALCOHOL OPERATION: Cheatham deputies, headed by Tim Binkley, conducted undercover beer buys this week with underage teenagers (approved by concerned parents). After visiting more than 60 merchants that sell alcohol, the following locations allegedly sold to underage teens and were summarily cited:

  • Dollar General, Kingston Springs
  • Dollar General, 41A @ Maxey Rd. Pleasant View
  • Twice Daily, Joelton

One problem we witnessed at the vast majority of markets is that most employees do not use their driver’s license scanners at the counters. Scanning young people’s DL’s would insure no beer sales to underage buyers.

We showed up in our workout gear on Friday. (Pic) Old sheriff men in 70’s workout attire came to run, jog and deputy wobble to support the Special Olympics held at Harpeth Middle School. Our administrative staff suited up as well and we all huffed and puffed with the torch in hand.

Thank you to our law enforcement representatives from Ashland City PD and Pleasant View PD who also attended to show their support for the kids. As an annual event at HMS, this was the first time when all Cheatham county schools came together and held this great moment in Kingston Springs.

Have a wonderful weekend Team Cheatham and congratulations to all of the Special Olympic competitors!
