Starting Monday, June 6, the district will offer no-cost summer learning camps for current K-12 students.
Invitations to attend the camps are being sent by each school. Priority is being given to students in need of additional learning support prior to the 2022-2023 school year.
Transportation, breakfast and lunch are being provided at no charge.
Each camp will offer a mix of classroom learning, physical activity and other fun experiences, with a full-day schedule for current K-8 students and a half-day schedule for current 9-12 students.
Students will have an opportunity to get caught up academically before the 2022-2023 school year begins. In grades K-8, the camps will consist of English language arts, math, academic intervention, STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and mathematics) and physical activity. High school students will have credit recovery.
The camps that are being offered by the district are funded through a Tennessee initiative to assist schools and students with learning loss related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including ESSER funds.
All camps will be held in-person, which is required by the Tennessee Department of Education as part of the funding.
The elementary school camps will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 6 to June 30. The middle school camps will operate from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. June 6 to June 30. The high school camps are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 6 to June 30.
Central cluster elementary students will attend the camp at Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy. Southern cluster elementary students will attend the camp at Kingston Springs Elementary School. In the north cluster, all elementary students will attend the camp for at Pleasant View Elementary School.
The middle and high school camps will be held at Cheatham Middle School, Harpeth Middle School and Sycamore Middle School.
NOTE: The camps are for students who are working on grade-level standards. Students who are not working on grade-level standards will have the option of ESY (Extended School Year) and that is a team decision based on each student’s IEP. If you have questions about ESY, contact your child’s teacher or our Special Education Department.
